Kicking Up The Dirt - Sprintcar Mountain Masters
Joanne White posted Sunday December 8, 2019.

Steven Lines last night dominated the Sprintcar Mountain Masters at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway, comfortably leading the thirty-lap A-Main event from green to chequer. Bryan Mann raced home in second for his third consecutive podium, while Danny Reidy crossed the line in third. Andrew Scheuerle and Kevin Titman rounded out the top five, with Titman managing to displace Brent Kratzmann in the final two laps of the race, to earn a top five result after starting back in position twelve.

Qualifying got underway and right from the start it was clear the competition was going to be close. Aaron Kelly set the benchmark at 11.926 but Steven Lines went one thousandth of a second quicker, stopping the clock at 11.925 seconds and securing quick time for the night. Kelly was second quickest, looking more comfortable in the car than he was at Archerfield Speedway last weekend, with Cody Maroske third quickest with a 12.161 second lap. Ryan McNamara (12.176) and Steve Greer (12.271) rounded out the fastest five, while the top fourteen cars were separated by less than one second. Karl Hoffmans managed to secure sixth quickest (12.288) before cutting down his right rear tyre, while deeper in the field Dave Whell beat Allan Woods by just 0.001 seconds.

Heat one started with Allan Woods and Dave Whell sharing the front row for the start, with Andrew Scheuerle and Danny Reidy right behind them. Woods and Whell raced side-by-side into the opening corners, while Reidy and Scheuerle negotiated over third and fourth. Reidy got past Scheuerle, only for the current Australian Champion to fire straight back and regain the position. Reidy was in magnificent form though and he and Scheuerle raced wheel-to-wheel as they closed in on the back of Woods. Reidy was lightening quick on the top side, while Woods challenged Whell on the inside for the race lead. Reidy raced around the top side of Woods and immediately turned his attention to Whell, while Scheuerle made his way past Woods. With just two laps to go Reidy made it look easy as he raced underneath Whell and into the race lead, leaving Whell to try and defend his position from Scheuerle. Danny Reidy went on to take the win ahead of Andrew Scheuerle with Dave Whell home in third. Allan Woods crossed the line in fourth and led Ryan McNamara, Steve Greer, Steven Lines, Scott Genrich and Nick Whell home.

Anthony Lambert and Bryan Mann shared the front row for the start of heat two, with Kevin Titman and Brent Kratzmann out of the second row. Lambert and Mann raced side-by-side into the opening couple of corners but it was Lambert who led them out of turn two. Titman and Kratzmann raced wheel-to-wheel as they raced for third position, while at the front of the field Mann looked boldly underneath Lambert in an unsuccessful effort to steal the race lead. Aaron Kelly made contact with the wall that would eventually end his race a few laps later, while all eyes were on the battle unfolding between Kratzmann and Titman. Titman slid underneath Kratzmann only for the Q2 racer to fire straight back and momentarily regain his position. Contact soon followed, the pair tangling and bringing the race under caution. Both restarted at the rear of the field, but Titman pulled out of the event soon after the race got back underway. Lambert led the restart from Mann with six laps to run. Lambert came under increasing pressure from Mann, the pair putting on a spectacular show for race fans, with Mann eventually getting around Lambert and taking control of the race with only two laps left to run. Bryan Mann got the win ahead of Anthony Lambert and Karl Hoffmans, with Brent Kratzmann making his way back to fourth by the fall of the chequered flag. Cody Reynolds and Libby Ellis rounded out the finishers, while Kevin Titman, Aaron Kelly and Cody Maroske all failed to finish the event.

Allan Woods started the third heat from pole position with Anthony Lambert alongside. Woods got a brilliant start and quickly secured the race lead when the lights went green, while Andrew Scheuerle was good on the bottom and immediately began making his way forward. Unfortunately the race was soon brought under caution when contact between Steven Lines and Aaron Kelly left Kelly with the front end torn from the Q7 racer. Sadly for Kelly he was out of the race and would not make it back trackside for the rest of the night. A full restart followed with Lambert this time taking control of the race. Bryan Mann though was exceptional from position four, quickly racing around the top side, around Woods and Lambert and into the race lead. Lambert fought back on the inside but Mann was too quick, while Steven Lines raced up the inside of Andrew Scheuerle to slip into fourth. Woods closed on Lambert and briefly challenged for second, while Lambert was relentless in his pursuit of Mann and control of the race. Woods continued to look for a way past Lambert, taking to the mid-track and spending several laps searching for a way through before eventually getting around the top side of the Q90 racer. Lambert had a brief but unsuccessful look on the inside of Woods a few laps later but Woods refused to surrender the position. Bryan Mann got the win ahead of Allan Woods and Anthony Lambert, with Steven Lines home in fourth ahead of Andrew Scheuerle. Nick Whell crossed the line in sixth ahead of Karl Hoffmans and Scott Genrich, while Aaron Kelly did not finish the event.

Kevin Titman and Cody Maroske shared the front row for the start of heat four, with Titman getting an absolutely brilliant start and quickly securing the race lead when the green flag flew. There was little anyone could do to stop Titman from there and the Q59 racer started opening a very comfortable lead right from the first lap. Brent Kratzmann raced underneath Dave Whell and into third, while Danny Reidy was absolutely sensational on the bottom, battling with Steve Greer. Reidy managed to get ahead of Greer, and while Greer fought back Reidy was too strong and had already turned his attention to Cody Maroske, and then Kratzmann. Kevin Titman got the win ahead of Brent Kratzmann and Danny Reidy, with Steve Greer, Ryan McNamara, Libby Ellis, Dave Whell, Cody Maroske (who spun on the final lap) and Cody Reynolds rounding out the finishers.

In the pre-dash draw Danny Reidy, as highest point scorer of the night, drew position four, leaving Brent Kratzmann and Steven Lines from the front row for the start of the eight-lap Dash event. Lines got a brilliant start and quickly secured the race lead, while Danny Reidy had a bold look on the high side of Kratzmann as he tried to find a way into second. Kratzmann managed to stay ahead of Reidy, while Bryan Mann made short work of getting past Reidy before challenging Kratzmann for second. Kratzmann denied Mann a way through but Mann was persistent on the bottom and, eventually, found his way through. While Mann set about trying to close the gap to Lines, Reidy put all kinds of pressure on Kratzmann but could not quite find a way through. Steven Lines got the win ahead of Bryan Mann and Brent Kratzmann, with Danny Reidy, Ryan McNamara and Steve Greer rounding out the finishers.

Steven Lines and Bryan Mann led the field to the green for the start of the thirty-lap A-main event, with Brent Kratzmann and Danny Reidy from the second row. Lines quickly secured the lead when the lights went green and was absolutely untouchable out in front, with Mann settling into second. Danny Reidy raced around the high side, side-by-side with Kratzmann as they negotiated over third, while further back in the field Allan Woods slid underneath Ryan McNamara. The battle between Woods and McNamara was fierce and unrelenting, the pair making contact several times and thrilling the crowd, while Cody Maroske and Karl Hoffmans had a brilliant battle amongst themselves for minor positions. Lines entered lapped traffic after just six laps, with Mann, Reidy and Kratzmann still unable to close in on the Q83 racer of Lines. With just six laps completed and plenty of lapped traffic to contend with, Lines extended his lead while Mann got caught in very heavy lapped traffic. Cody Reynolds and Scott Genrich battled at the rear of the field, while Titman had advanced from position twelve on the starting grid to seventh after only ten laps. Reidy closed in on Mann in lapped traffic and started looking underneath the Q16 racer, while Kratzmann started challenging Reidy but could not find a way through. Lines had built a significant lead, and the three-wide lapped traffic ahead of him was not enough to slow him down. Lines was almost half a lap ahead of Mann and the rest, while Andrew Scheuerle had spent most of the race in fifth but made his way around the high side of Kratzmann and into fourth with about nine laps left to run. Cody Maroske and Allan Woods raced side-by-side as they made their way around the lapped car of Libby Ellis, while Kratzmann challenged Scheuerle in an effort to regain his position. Scheuerle began to close in on Reidy but the race was brought under caution when Cody Reynolds spun to a stop with just a few laps left to run.

Steven Lines led the restart with three laps left to run, from Bryan Mann, Danny Reidy, Andrew Scheuerle, Brent Kratzmann, Kevin Titman and Cody Maroske. Lines immediately opened a sizable margin when the race resumed, while Kratzmann had a brief look underneath Scheuerle but was unable to find a way through. Kevin Titman slid underneath Kratzmann, with Maroske following soon after, but there was no stopping Lines out in front. Steven Lines got the win ahead of Bryan Mann and Danny Reidy, with Andrew Scheuerle and Kevin Titman rounding out the top five. Cody Maroske crossed the line in sixth ahead of Brent Kratzmann, Allan Woods, Nick Whell, Ryan McNamara, Anthony Lambert, Dave Whell, Steve Greer, Karl Hoffmans, Libby Ellis and Cody Reynolds. Scott Genrich did not finish the 30-lap journey, while Aaron Kelly did not start the event.
