Blingy Blitzes Opening Night Tri City Shootout
Tri-City Shootout posted Sunday April 8, 2012.
David “Blingy” Muir was a jubilant last gasp winner of the opening round of the $80,000 Tri City Sprintcar Shootout at Maryborough Speedway in Queensland last night, snatching the win on the final 50 metres from Cameron Gessner.
The livewire youngster sped his Capalaba Wreckers #18 across the line to win by a mere half car length (0.125s) from West Australia domiciled (though proud Queenslander) Gessner in second and Danny Reidy in third.
Fourth home was Ian Loudoun with Todd Wanless fifth, Kevin Titman sixth, Robbie Farr seventh, Peter Lack eighth, Matthew Butler ninth and Pete Thorley rounding out the top ten.
Bryan Mann and Cameron Gessner sat on the front row for the 30 lap main event in front of an excellent crowd at the increasingly popular Maryborough venue.
Unfortunately Mann spun his car coming out of turn two and several cars collided with him including 2011 KRE Engines and Club Champion Andrew Scheuerle in the Ausdeck #25.
Scheuerle’s car was destroyed in the impact and his motor was also badly damaged.
Defending Tri City Shootout champion Robbie Farr was also involved in the fracas and cut down his right rear tyre, forcing the WA based Sydneysider to the rear of the field for the restart.
Farr would later speed from the back to an eventual 7th to save what could have been a disastrous first night points haul.
The second night of the Tri City Shootout is held at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway tonight.
The top 20 points after Night One are:
Cameron Gessner 115
David Muir 113
